VOSD Radio: Special Election Bro-Out

Who better to weigh in on a mayoral candidate pool overflowing with testosterone than a recording studio full of bro-media?

U-T San Diego engagement editor Matthew Hall and CityBeat editor David Rolland joined Voice of San Diego co-hosts Scott Lewis and Andrew Keatts during the second half of our hour-long podcast this week.

Ahead of polls’ open on Tuesday, the boys talked all things election, including whether people actually care about this weird race and the fury one of labor’s loudest voices has thrown into trashing Nathan Fletcher.

First, Keatts and Lewis looked at the lack of progress made one year after the Property Value Protection Ordinance was imposed. The second biggest achievement David Alvarez keeps touting is kind of a mess, and doesn’t at all seem to be holding banks accountable for foreclosed properties.

The folks responsible for the law’s implementation aren’t quite Goat of the Week status, though. That honor went to Tony Krvaric, chairman of the San Diego County’s Republican Party, after he fired off a particularly vile tweet.

Hero of the Week was interim mayor Todd Gloria, following his five-year budget wake-up call. That’s right – pointing out that things cost money gets you Hero accolades in San Diego these days. It’s a low bar, and we’ll take what we can get.
